What are the precautions for installing steel structure bolts?

Bolts are connectors of steel structures, which can be divided into two types based on their load-bearing capacity: ordinary bolts and high-strength bolts.

1. For bolt connections under dynamic loads or important parts, spring washers should be placed according to design requirements, and the spring washers must be set on one side of the nut.

2. The installation of high-strength bolts should be able to freely penetrate the holes, and forced penetration is strictly prohibited. The diameter of the high-strength bolt connecting steel plate is slightly larger than the bolt diameter, and it must be formed by drilling.

3. The regular connection forms of high-strength bolts are usually divided into friction connection, tension connection, and pressure connection, among which friction connection is currently widely used as the basic connection form.

4. The installation sequence of high-strength bolts: from the position with high stiffness to the unrestrained free end. The high-strength bolts on a joint should be tightened one by one from the middle of the bolt group to the surrounding areas for initial, repeated, and final tightening. Each tightening should be marked with different colors of paint to prevent missing tightening. The initial, secondary, and final tightening of high-strength bolts in the same joint should be completed within 24 hours. If there is no specified design, it is advisable to follow the construction process sequence of tightening high-strength bolts first and then welding (i.e. bolt first and then welding).
